I love that phrase. I first heard it in a talk by Neal A. Maxwell titled Notwithstanding My Weakness. Maxwell has other talks where he mentions divine discontent:
- Settle This in Your Hearts
- Swallowed Up in the Will of the Father
- According to the Desire of [Our] Hearts
- Consecrate Thy Performance
Today is a day of divine discontent and as Elder Maxwell so pointedly states:
We can distinguish more clearly between divine discontent and the devil’s dissonance, between dissatisfaction with self and disdain for self. We need the first and must shun the second, remembering that when conscience calls to us from the next ridge, it is not solely to scold but also to beckon.
There is always “hope smiling brightly before us” and just like the Lord did for the children of Israel, He provides a path for us to “cross on dry ground.“
