Obama Facts vs Obama Lies, allegedly

Speaking of sophistry, this story almost made me tip over backwards while rolling my eyes:

My first thought was #Benghazigate and #4DeadAmericans. Oh wait, that was all Hillary’s fault and not Obama’s?

But wait, there’s more:

Reflected, Refocused, Renewed

One of the best things I did was take the 10 Day Social Media Fast. Here is the challenge:

What I found I truly enjoyed was really listening to Glenn Beck and The Blaze television streaming every day. Glenn is now doing the sort of programming that needed to be done several years ago, conversations. Conversations about the Founding Fathers. Conversations about The Divine Constitution, all of the things that must be discussed and repeated through the generations. Glenn has a ton of great On Demand programs but I love the live broadcasts and really enjoy the conversations with his guests.

One quote from many years ago has come to my mind over the past thirty days:

Stepping carefully back into the social media scene my mind is in a much better place. Some of my thoughts and feelings are less emotional and better suited to hear things from a fresh perspective therefore the prospects are seen in a much brighter light.

Am I happy with Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan. Ugh, NO!

Am I happy with the direction too many in the Republican Party are taking our nation by voting with the Democrat non-conservative policies? Ugh, NO again!

Do I have faith in the few that are working to protect the American People from being consumed by those in Congress usurping our unalienable rights? Most definitely.

And I have faith in all of you who read and re-read our Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution. You are the ones holding Congress’ feet over the flames of freedom. You are the ones teaching future generations, by example, the foundational principles for living so they can, in turn, govern themselves.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

By the way, PROMOTING the general welfare, welfare as in faring well, is not providing general welfare as some people claim through the redistribution of wealth as plainly illustrated in the Declaration of Independence.

10 Day Social Media Fast: Day 9

Being less on social media has given me more opportunities to read and to watch The Blaze or listen to it in the background during my day. I usually have The Blaze on most of the time anyway however, not being distracted by social media has allowed me to really listen to it during the day.

Pat Gray Unleashed is a favorite! As the Morning Guy I love hearing him when I wake up.  I am thrilled that CRTV’s Steve Deace is now a crossover show on The Blaze. Deace is on after Glenn Beck Radio so the line up is really working for me.

One thing Deace talked about today is how some Republican’s use catch phrases when it comes to getting reelected but the Conservative Review tracks their voting records so you can see if their words are far from their hearts. I like that he brought it up while asking listeners to guess what percentage some of the names circulating themselves through the media are on the Conservative voting scale. 

Oh, if only he could hear me screaming what I know through the television screen. The Scorecard is so my friend when it comes to calling out alleged Republicans in Congress. And I really like to use it when Military people run for office, as though their military service makes them more worthy to sit in the House or Senate.

10 Day Social Media Fast: Day 8

Reading the news is not social media. Posting my thoughts and reactions on my blog is more like journalism.

When I read this article the other day on the Blaze I about tipped over backwards from rolling my eyes:

Yeah. Right. So now, after the election there is an alleged attempt to possibly have another feigned effort/promise to be finally kept by the GOP to do what the people have wanted done on Day 1 of the Trump Presidency? Now there is a bravado on the tail end of the small and #NotPermanentTaxCuts, #FullRepealEpicFail and the #Cromnibus?

Rachel Bovard discusses some of my thoughts in her article Building the Wall After All?:

“For the last two years, House Republicans have been frustrated as their leadership remains content to allow the Senate to call the shots, unwilling to engage openly in favor of their own priorities. (Or, for that matter, their own bills. Nearly 600 House bills are languishing in the Senate, waiting for action.)”

And this bill touted by Kevin McCarthy, who might be out to kill the Jim Jordan nomination for Speaker of the House as the Paul Ryan replacement?

Uh, it truly seems calculated, disingenuous, duplicitous, and extremely manipulative in this eleventh hour. I would have been more impressed if McCarthy insisted the House go on the record BEFORE this election cycle instead of afterwards.

10 Day Social Media Fast: Day 7

Last weekend was General Conference and it was absolutely wonderful. This weekend has been Stake Conference and today’s Sunday session was every bit as wonderful as last evening’s session.

Inspired by the things I heard speakers share today, I went back to the talks from last Sunday to add additional insights as to what I understood from this morning’s speakers.

Deep and Lasting Conversion to Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ

World conditions increasingly require deepening individual conversion to and strengthening faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and His Atonement. The Lord has prepared us, line upon line, for the perilous times that we now face. In recent years, the Lord has guided us to address related core concerns, including:

  • Honoring the Sabbath day and the sacred ordinance of the sacrament has again been emphasized for the last three years.

Believe, Love, Do

The good news is, there is hope. There is a solution to the emptiness, vanity, and Weltschmerz of life. There is a solution to even the deepest hopelessness and discouragement you might feel.

Wounded

The Savior is our Good Samaritan,11 sent “to heal the brokenhearted.”12 He comes to us when others pass us by. With compassion, He places His healing balm on our wounds and binds them up. He carries us. He cares for us. He bids us, “Come unto me … and I shall heal [you].”13

Firm and Steadfast in the Faith of Christ

I am reminded of our mothers’ counsel: “Eat your vegetables; it will do you good.” Our mothers are right, and in the context of steadfastness in the faith, “eating your vegetables” is to pray constantly, to feast on the scriptures daily, to serve and worship in the Church, to worthily take the sacrament each week, to love your neighbor, and to take up your cross in obedience to God each day.24

Shepherding Souls

Brothers and sisters, our greatest challenges and our greatest rewards may come as we minister to lost sheep. The members of the Church in the Book of Mormon “watch[ed] over their people, and did nourish them with things pertaining to righteousness.”16 We can follow their examples and remember that ministering is to be “led by the Spirit, … flexible, and … customized to the needs of each member.” It is also critical that we “seek to help individuals and families prepare for their next ordinance, keep [their] covenants … , and become self-reliant.17

10 Day Social Media Fast: Day 6

Today was the first day of the Montgomery Stake Conference. My husband sat in leadership meetings this afternoon and then I joined him for the evening session that is open to all adults 18 years and older.

10 Day Social Media Fast: Day 5

Divine Discontent.

I love that phrase. I first heard it in a talk by Neal A. Maxwell titled Notwithstanding My Weakness.  Maxwell has other talks where he mentions divine discontent

  1. Settle This in Your Hearts
  2. Swallowed Up in the Will of the Father
  3. According to the Desire of [Our] Hearts
  4. Consecrate Thy Performance

Today is a day of divine discontent and as Elder Maxwell so pointedly states: 

  1. We can distinguish more clearly between divine discontent and the devil’s dissonance, between dissatisfaction with self and disdain for self. We need the first and must shun the second, remembering that when conscience calls to us from the next ridge, it is not solely to scold but also to beckon.

There is always “hope smiling brightly before us” and just like the Lord did for the children of Israel, He provides a path for us to “cross on dry ground.
